Helensburgh Postbox Topper Celebrating John Logie Baird

Hello!

We are looking for talented volunteers to create children's book and reading-themed Royal Mail postbox toppers to help celebrate the 2 Rivers Children's Book Festival, taking place in Dumbarton on Sunday 12th October 2026. The toppers will be displayed across Dumbarton in the lead-up to and during the festival, brightening up our streets and building excitement for this wonderful community event now in its second year - bringing a little joy and inspiring a love of reading in children (and grown-ups!).

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We need 8 toppers in total and we welcome any knitted or crocheted topper with a children's book or reading theme. Ideas might include:

  • Favourite storybook characters (please check copyright considerations for very specific designs)

  • Open books, owls, ‘bookworms’ or other classic literary animals

  • Scenes from fairy tales or adventure stories

  • Children curled up with books

  • Colourful piles of books

…but we'd love to see your own creative ideas too!

THE DETAILS

  • Toppers should be designed to fit a standard Royal Mail post box with a circular top.

  • Please use weather-resistant yarn where possible

  • Deadline for submissions is September 1st 2026

  • If you buy supplies for this project at Threads Wool Shop, Dumbarton please quote discount code “postbox” for 10% off your shop!

  • Drop-off point: Threads Wool Shop, 143 Glasgow Road, Dumbarton, G82 1RQ, Scotland

This is a wonderful way to celebrate reading, support our wee festival, and add a splash of colour and creativity to the streets of Dumbarton.

If you'd like to get involved or have questions, please get in touch via the form below.

Thank you so much — we can't do this without your help!
